Protect Your Boiler From Freezing Conditions!

IMG_5195

We are well into the winter season, which calls for a quick reminder on freeze protection for any boiler equipment installed outdoors, whether it is a temporary rental boiler or your facility equipment. Taking the proper preventative measures will avoid operational difficulties and major damage to your system. During freezing weather conditions, Nationwide Boiler recommends the following:

1. Enclose both the front and rear of the boiler area and use an external heat source to minimize freezing conditions.

2. Install heat tracing with insulation to protect exposed stagnant water lines.

3. Utilize an appropriate heat tracing method (electric or steam tracing) to all of your main lines and piping components. This includes the following lines, which should be heat traced regardless of whether the boiler is in operation or not (in freezing conditions):

a. Sensing lines (steam drum to CRM, high steam, and steam gauge)
b. Auxiliary low-water cut-off
c. Water column
d. Level control blowdown
e. Main and continuous blowdown (depending on length of piping runs)

4. In addition to heat tracing on stagnant sensing lines, drain the lines and fill them with a 50/50 (water/glycol) solution, making sure to re-connect the line.

5. When an extended boiler down time is expected, completely drain the boiler and stagnant water lines.

The above are recommendations, however, be sure to use sound engineering judgement calls when there are concerns of possible freeze damage to the equipment. And remember, with most rental companies, any freeze damage that requires repairs or replacement of boiler components will be the responsibility of the customer, so it is imperative that you take the correct steps to freeze protect your temporary equipment.

Nationwide Boiler Attending AHR Expo 2018 This Week

AHR-Exp_20180122-192617_1

The AHR Expo was founded 88 years ago with the goal to bring HVACR professionals together to share ideas, products, and technical support. Today, it remains the single largest all-inclusive HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigerating) event in the world with over 65,000 attendees from 165 countries around the globe. Designers, engineers, manufacturers, and end-users have a unique opportunity to learn about and showcase the latest equipment and technologies available in the market from over 2,000 exhibitors, including some familiar names such as Cleaver-Brooks, ECO Products, Emerson, Marlo Incorporated, and McDonnell & Miller.

The show will include live demonstrations, seminar programs, product presentations, and an Innovation Awards ceremony in honor of the most inventive and original products, systems and technologies showcased at the expo this year. The Innovation Awards competition is exceptional in its recognition of inventive and original products, systems and technologies. The AHR Expo gives back to the community by donating the entry fees to a local charity every year. This year, the Chicago Lighthouse received $20,700 to continue their efforts in serving the blind, visually impaired, disabled and Veteran communities. As a fervent advocate for our troops, with many of our employees having served in the military, Nationwide Boiler appreciates the organization’s efforts in providing support to our veterans.

As industry professionals, we recommend taking advantage of some of the superb programs available at the show. The American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) will be offering a free two-hour industry session on “Maximizing Hydronic Boiler System Designs—The Fundamentals” starting at 2:30pm in S102D.

Representatives from Nationwide Boiler, Jim Lieskovan and Bill Testa, will be attending the AHR Expo at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL today through Wednesday. Our motto, “Integrity, Dependability, and Real Customer Service”, demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with reliable and energy efficient equipment. To schedule a meeting with Jim or Bill, please call us toll free at (800) 227-1966.
